Fair the Easy Way: Learn to Knit Fair Isle or Switch Up Your Fair Isle Technique

New to colorwork? Learn to knit Fair Isle or stranded knitting using two colors per round. Want to learn a new method of knitting Fair Isle? Learn to knit with one color in each hand, two colors in your right hand, or two colors in your left hand. For those with stranded knitting experience, the workshop will cover various ways to hold the yarns (two colors in right hand, one color in each hand, two colors in left hand), color dominance, and the issue of floats. In this workshop, we’ll use the Halibut hat to practice Fair Isle knitting. This hat uses small, intuitive colorwork patterns that enable you to focus on your technique. There are no long floats, so you won’t need to worry about catching your yarn when working with two colors. By the time you finish the hat, you’ll be comfortable with your chosen method of Fair Isle knitting. Skills needed: • Knitting in the round, basic increases and decreases Techniques covered: • Fair Isle knitting in the round using your preferred method Materials needed: • 16-inch US Size 5 and US Size 6 circular needles • Stitch marker • Row counter (optional but helpful). • Halibut Hat pattern, available on Ravelry here: https://ravel.me/halibut-hat Class included Halibut Hat Yarn Kit: - 1 skein of Prado de Lana DK weight yarn (MC). --You will need to order this ahead of class to be able to complete the homework. - 1 mini skein of Plied Yarn (CC) - -You will pick this out at class time. Homework: Cast on and knit the ribbing of your hat. Work from the beginning of the Instructions in the pattern to the charted colorwork. You’ll be ready to start the colorwork portion in class.
